  Tidak ada komentar
Acne is an extremely common skin disorder. Pimples, whiteheads, pustules, blackheads, and cystic acne are various kinds of acne. Even though we notice that pimples become visible overnight, an acne breakout would involve a rather longer course at the cellular level. Acne is caused because of excess production of oil inside the sebaceous glands. These oil glands are more in number on the facial area in comparison to the other areas of the body. The chest and back are other areas of the body which have a quite a large number of oil glands hence acne breakouts are also noticed on the chest and back area. Let’s find out more about acne in adults and teenagers and discuss – why does acne occur in puberty?

Why does acne occur in puberty?
In most individuals acne generally starts during puberty. In males this happens at the time when the body begins to produce hormones known as androgens; and estrogens in females. The production of these hormones is the main reason for acne. The sebaceous glands in the body are extremely sensitive towards androgens. It causes the glands to enlarge as well as secrete an increased level of sebum. In puberty, there is a rapid shedding of skin cells which mix with the excess sebum quite easily. Due to this there is an increased chance of the hair follicle getting clogged eventually leading to the formation of acne.
Hence, acne develops during puberty due to the amount of oil which is secreted by the skin due to the androgen hormones. The oils, also called sebum, clog the pores, trapping bacteria and dead skin cells leading to various kinds of acne, like blackheads, whiteheads etc.

Acne in Adults
As we have already discussed, acne is caused due to sebum, an oily secretion produced by the sebaceous glands in the skin. Sebum clogs the pores and this attracts bacteria and gets inflamed. An acne breakout is a result of hypersensitivity or the excess production of androgens hormones in males and estrogen hormones in females. An imbalance in these hormones can cause acne breakouts. In females this can occur during pregnancy, peri-menopause and menopause. Some medications and cosmetics could also lead to development of acne.
An unhealthy diet and lifestyle could also lead to acne. Consuming processed foods and unhealthy drinks with no nutritional value is also among the reasons that can lead to acne breakouts. Lack of sleep is also known to aggravate acne since lack of sleep leads to some hormonal changes which can affect the skin. Without proper hygiene, dirt enters the pores and obstructs the skin from getting sufficient oxygen which can also result in acne breakouts.
Studies have suggested that stress is not a factor that leads to acne but it can surely worsen acne an acne breakout in adults and teenagers. It stimulates the adrenal glands to produce extra hormones and slows down the acne healing process.
Many adult and teenage women use cosmetics. Overuse of cosmetics or the wrong use of cosmetics without making sure whether they suit the skin type or not, can cause acne. For example if an oily cream or cosmetic product is used on an acne affected skin, it is sure to aggravate the problem further. Even the chemical compounds present in cosmetic products can also cause acne breakouts.
Differin is a topical medicine which is known to help treat severe acne. It functions by lessening the formation of acne. It is available in the form of gel and cream. Consult a dermatologist before the use of this medication or any other skincare product
